Carrom Rules:

  • Players have three attempts to break the central group of counters at the start.
  • The striker's first contact does not matter, nor does it matter if no pieces are hit.
  • Pocketing the Queen or pieces of one's own color allows for another strike.
  • If no pieces are pocketed or a foul occurs, the turn ends.
  • Thumbing is allowed.
  • Arrows can be played.
  • Jumped coins to be placed opposite the player inside the circle.
  • In doubles, during the course of a Board, the partners are not allowed to talk or communicate with each other by gestures.
  • Changing seating side on the board during the game is not allowed.

Striking:

  • Player positions the striker within the baseline or on one of the two circles at either end of the baseline.
  • The striker must touch both the front line and the rear line within the baseline, ensuring it does not "cut the moon," which means it cannot be placed partially within the baseline and partially within the circle.
  • To initiate play, the player flicks the striker with one finger, ensuring it moves across the front baseline; flicking in a backward or horizontal manner is against the rules.
  • Striking a piece that is situated on or behind the front baseline is prohibited until the striker has completely crossed the front baseline.
  • During the act of striking, the player must be careful not to let their hand or arm cross the diagonal foul lines located at either end of the baseline, as this would constitute a foul.

Covering the Queen:

  • A player must first pocket at least one piece of their own colour before attempting to cover the Queen.
  • Pocketing the Queen without the prerequisite of having pocketed a piece, results in the Queen being placed back to the centre at the end of the turn.
  • Successfully pocketing the Queen along with one of the player's own pieces in the same turn is considered as covering the Queen, provided the player has already pocketed at least one piece previously.
  • If the Queen is pocketed without a subsequent cover, it is then placed back to the center circle by the opposing player
